The story of Krishna's birth is narrated in the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata. Krishna was born in the city of Mathura, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. His parents were Devaki and Vasudeva. Devaki was the sister of Kansa, the evil king of Mathura. Kansa had heard a prophecy that he would be killed by his sister's eighth child. To prevent this prophecy from coming true, Kansa had imprisoned Devaki and her husband, Vasudeva.

On the night of Krishna's birth, Vasudeva managed to escape from prison and take the baby Krishna to Gokul, a village in the countryside. He left Krishna in the care of a cowherd couple, Nanda and Yashoda. Kansa's soldiers searched for Krishna, but they could not find him.

Krishna grew up in Gokul and became a famous warrior and hero. He eventually defeated Kansa and avenged the death of his parents.
